ann arbor michigan master gardening - gardening for fun

Sometimes the backyard garden doesn't work for everyone. Some areas have a short growing season but you can get a jump-start before summer is here by starting your own seedlings.

The older leaves are the ones that help with digestion and are quite edible when they are steamed or stir-fried with any other kind of vegetable. Most are without steady access to natural water and are in shaded spots, as they are being hung under pergolas or rafters. Many people do not like to prune their plants because either they do not want to cut them or they do not know how to prune them.

If you live in the northern zones, make sure to read the packet to see if you should wait until springtime to plant the plants. Small hanging plants, like spider plants or ferns, are visually attractive and add significance to those uninviting corners. If you look in your kitchen you can come up most of the common ingredients that are used for deterrents.

The root, if prepared properly, is a tasty beverage and a very good coffee substitute. Ideal planting months are March and April. Weeds will take the nutrients and water away from your vegetables.
