authoritative gardening - gardening for fun

Fall is a great season for planting ground covers in your garden. Different vegetables grow in different types of light and need a specific amount of space between each plant.

Even though fake plants are available, there is no replacing the real thing. In the following you will find some fun facts, instructions, and information on different varieties and a few special recipes. If you live in the northern zones, make sure to read the packet to see if you should wait until springtime to plant the plants.

Plan early enough in the season what you want to bring in when the temperatures start to fall. If you are not sure what will survive in a pot, experiment, or contact a local nursery to see if they can offer any other advice climate specific. If it looks like weeds are overtaking your yard, then do not go and by a shovel, invest in a weeder.

Do not use your mixture on extremely hot days and avoid spraying overly sensitive plants. Frost sensitive plants will not grow between late fall and the middle of spring unless you provide heat, which of course would not then be a cold house. The flowers usually bloom in clusters above the foliage.

Summer is almost here and now is a great time to start. Also, get yourself a compost pail.
